Palermo, the noble
Detail
A journey through the splendor of 19th-century Palermo and its Jewish and Spanish heritage, rich in history, art, and culture.
The Belle Époque of Palermo
The tour begins with an immersion into the “Palermo Felicissima” of the 1800s, following the history of the Florio family. The first stop is Palazzo Bonocore, where a cutting-edge multimedia exhibition brings the golden years of the city back to life.
A walk through the streets and landmarks of the Belle Époque reveals a time when Palermo was at the cultural and economic heart of the Mediterranean.
Jewish and Spanish Palermo
The second part of the itinerary is dedicated to the city’s Jewish and Spanish heritage. Starting from the ancient Giudecca, the visit begins at Palazzo Steri-Chiaromonte, a 17th-century seat of the Holy Inquisition, where the prisons still bear the marks and graffiti of past prisoners.
Continuing through the streets of the old Jewish quarter, the journey highlights the legacy of Spanish rule, with its striking “theatrical” architecture that still defines Palermo today.
Discovering the Salinas Museum
The final stop leads to the Salinas Regional Museum, the oldest in Sicily. A true treasure trove of history, it houses collections and artifacts that tell the story of the many cultures that have shaped the Mediterranean and Sicily over the centuries.
A Tasteful Finale
The experience concludes with a tasting of traditional Sicilian products, accompanied by the island’s finest wines, in the enchanting cloister of the Salinas Museum. A moment of pleasure to savor the authentic flavors of local tradition.
