Exploring Sicily by bicycle means immersing yourself in a journey through culture, traditions and breathtaking landscapes. From the Ionian coasts to the slopes of Mount Etna, from the golden beaches to the most authentic hinterland, each ride offers unique emotions along the Ciclovia dei Parchi.
Discovering the island on two wheels allows you to combine the passion for cycling with adventure, crossing territories rich in history and natural beauty. The routes wind through medieval villages, vineyards and nature reserves, offering views that vary from sheer cliffs to striking volcanic landscapes.
The Cycle Route of the Parks of Sicily
A not-to-be-missed itinerary for cycling enthusiasts crosses the island’s four main nature parks, providing an immersive experience among nature, history and local flavors.
Stage 1: Giardini Naxos to Randazzo (60 km)
The route begins in Giardini Naxos, skirting Francavilla di Sicilia, where it is possible to visit the Convent of the Capuchin Friars and access the striking Gurne dell’Alcantara. Continue to Castiglione di Sicilia, listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy,” to admire the Church of Santa Domenica, one of the oldest Byzantine cube in Sicily. Linguaglossa is an ideal stop to discover local gastronomic specialties, such as sausage cut on the stump and the renowned Etna wines. The last part of the route travels along the Strada del Vino, between Passopisciaro and Solicchiata, before reaching Randazzo, where the medieval charm is still perfectly preserved.
Stage 2: From Randazzo to Cerami (60 km)
Passing through the heart of the Nebrodi Park, the route leads to Cesarò, renowned for its dairy products, before reaching San Teodoro. The route continues along the SP 167, skirting Lake Ancipa before arriving in Cerami, a small village rich in history.
Stage 3: From Cerami to Petralia Sottana (55 km)
The route enters the Madonie Park. The first stop is in Nicosia, known as the “City of 24 Barons,” followed by Sperlinga, a village famous for its castle carved into the rock. Continuing along SP 20, we reach Gangi, winner of the title of “Most Beautiful Village in Italy” in 2014. The last part of the route leads to Petralia Sottana, characterized by a perfectly preserved medieval historic center.
Stage 4: From Petralia Sottana to Castelbuono (60 km)
The journey continues through the beauty of the Madonie Park, passing through Castellana Sicula and Polizzi Generosa, a village linked to the figure of Frederick II. After a stop in Collesano, home of the Targa Florio Museum, and Isnello, with its Astronomical Park, the itinerary ends in Castelbuono, a village of great historical and artistic charm.
Stage 5: From Castelbuono to Cefalù (36 km)
The last stage leads to the northern coast, with a stop in Gratteri before reaching Cefalù, a medieval jewel overlooking the sea. The village, included among the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy,” is home to the famous Norman Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, giving a perfect conclusion to this extraordinary journey.
