Holy Week in Aidone

The Holy Week of Aidone is an event of great religious and folkloristic intensity that involves the entire community. The celebrations begin with Palm Sunday and culminate with the Easter Junta, in an atmosphere of great emotion and devotion. The processions are animated by ancient traditions, including the Santoni, statues of the twelve apostles, and the laments in the Sicilian language that accompany the rites. Easter Day, the heart of the celebration, marks the meeting between the Risen Christ and the Madonna, creating a spectacle of great suggestion.
